Last Days Of Summer In Knoxville

A lot of families in Knoxville have already gone to the beach, done vacation bible school, and finished all their summer camps. So, now what? Now that we are nearing back to school, kids (and parents) are getting antsy and dare we say, bored! We thought creating a list of fun family activities to finish out the summer was a much needed resource.

Have small children? Have you heard of Safety City? This fun little “town” is a great way to not only educate young riders Safetycityon the do’s and don’ts of bike safety, but it also provides a cute and unique place for youngsters to get some exercise. With working street lights and actual signs, Safety City is a fun and safe way for children to use their imaginations and practice the rules of the road.

Another often overlooked local spot is Sir Goony’s in Farragut. With putt putt, go-karts, and the Splash Zone Watgoogyerslides. “Look for the Castle Bounce House and Slide. This slide has a special bounce house floor for wet feet! Try the Rip & Dip with two lanes of wavy sliding fun.”

Trampoline Parks provide a ton of air-conditioned fun for the whole family. Again, a great way to burn off some energy while avoiding the late July heat. Check out Jump Jam and Max Air

Knoxville is known for its incredible parks. One of our favorites is the World’s Fair Park with views of the spectacular Sunsphere and an inviting splash pad. Don’t feel like driving downtown? Check out Concord park in Bearden and pack a picnic, or enjoy the new splash pad and playgrounds at McFee Park in Farragut.

The Muse makes a fantastic educational day trip. With a full-dome planetarium, STEM stations, manipulatives and so much more, children of all ages can play and learn in a musevariety of exhibits. Have a little engineer in your house? On Aug 6th The Muse will host the 3rd Annual Robotics Revolution, “geared to inspire young minds toward a college and career in a variety of STEM (Science, technology, Engineering, Math) fields.”

The Zoo is a “wildly fun” way to spend the day. With animal exhibits, playgrounds and a splash pad there is enough to see and do for everyone in the family. “Zoo Knoxville is one of the premiere zoological experiences in the southeast. Committed to sharing ‘wildly fun’ experiences that educate and inspire, we feature acres of creative habitats for animal lovers of all ages to explore.”

Don’t mind driving a little farther? Plan a visit to Wilderness at the Smokies near Pigeon Forge. As Tennessee’s largest waterpark resort, it boasts both indoor and outdoor pools, among tons of other fun-filled family activities.  For every age this unique waterpark is exploding with fun for the entire family.

Love the outdoors? Want to do something a little different? “Navitat Knoxville’s tree-based zipline adventure park at Ijams Nature Center is designed to thrill, educate and inspire” With six different elevated “adventureMom_Daughter_Adventure trails, choose your own adventure! Stick to the easier trails if you like or challenge yourself to conquer the more difficult trails.” There are specific age and weight requirements, though, so make sure you check out their website before heading out into the zipline wilderness!

Do something truly iconic and take the Tennessee River Boat out for sightseeing, lunch, dinner and even a 50’s themed sunset cruise on Friday nights.

Any Tennessee native can tell you that Dollywood and Splash Country are fan favorites for summer fun. Dollywood recently completed and unveiled “Lightning Rod” the world’s fastest wood coaster. Splash Country sprawls over 35 acres and has enough water attractions to surely help you and your family beat the late summer heat.

Be sure to check out the Market Square Farmer’s Market and stroll through aisles of fresh local produce, baked goods and more.

We are so lucky to live in such an amazing town. There is so much to do and see and Knoxville has been awarded numerous accolades. Visit Knoxville says, “very few places offer the opportunity to experience live music, culture, outdoor adventure, eclectic shopping and highly acclaimed cuisine in one unique location. It’s no wonder that Knoxville was recently named by Trip Advisor as a Top 10 Destination on the Rise. In this one, unique city, mountains meet music… art meets adventure… and culture meets cuisine.” Be sure to take advantage of all that Knoxville has to offer!
